Colorado 2010 Big Game Applications Available
February 23, 2010.
Colorado's 2010 regulations for deer, elk, antelope, bear, and moose have been out for over a week now. You may have gotten your copy in the mail ... but many hunters, including myself, have not.
Key changes for 2010, previously summarized in our January 19th update, include:
- Hybrid Drawing: Hunters with 5 or more elk or deer preference points
that select as their first choice a unit requiring 10 or more resident points
for that species points will automatically participate in a random “hybrid”
drawing for a portion of the tags for that unit.
For elk, units included in the Hybrid Draw include prime tags in 1,2,10,61,201, 851
For deer, units included in the Hybrid Draw include prime tags in 10,103,142. - Gunnison Basin Elk Hunts:
1. Archery elk licenses are totally limited in units 54, 55, 551.
2. Either-sex, over-the-counter licenses with caps are available in unit 54
during the second rifle season.
3. Additional cow licenses and late-season licenses are now available in
units 54, 55, and 551.
For more on changes in the Gunnison Basin, see info posted on CDOW's website. - The 3rd season for deer and elk has been extended to nine days and now includes two weekends.
- New white-tailed deer-only seasons are now open in the Arkansas River drainage between Pueblo & Canon City. Additional units have been added on the Eastern Plains.
- All muzzleloading elk licenses are valid in specific Game Management Units (GMUs). “Statewide” licenses are no longer available in 2010. Either-sex licenses are now available in specific units.
- The rifle season for moose has been extended to 14 days.
- Hunters who do not want to accumulate preference points may opt out of paying the $25 preference point fee by selecting the appropriate check box on the big game drawing application.
- Nonresident cow elk and bear license fees increased from $251 to $354.
Applications are due April 6.
