Colorado Prepares to Set Dates for 2011 Duck Season

The Colorado Wildlife Commission is scheduled to make final adjustments to the 2010 waterfowl and migratory bird hunting seasons and all related regulatory changes at its workshop in Granby on August 9th.

Wildlife commissioners will consider changes to the waterfowl seasons, including an increase of the daily bag limit for pintails from one to two birds in the Central Flyway portion of Colorado.

Oh, how I covet pintails.

Proposed season dates and bag limits vary by zones.

Central Flyway Eastern Plains Zone – All areas east of Interstate 25 and all of El Paso, Pueblo, Huerfano and Las Animas Counties.

First season: October 2 - 18, 2010.
Second season: November 6, 2010 - January 23, 2011.

Daily Bag Limit: Six (6), excluding mergansers. Of the six (6), no more than five (5) mallards, of which no more than two (2) can be female, one two (12) pintail, one (1) canvasback, two (2) redheads, one (1) mottled duck, three (3) wood ducks, and two (2) scaup. No mottled ducks may be taken before October 7, 2010.

Central Flyway Mountain/Foothills Zone – All areas west of Interstate 25 and east of the Continental Divide, except El Paso, Pueblo, Huerfano and Las Animas Counties.

First season: October 2 - November 29, 2010.
Second season: December 18, 2010 - January 23, 2011.

Daily Bag Limit:
a. Ducks: Six (6), excluding mergansers. Of the six (6), no more than five (5) mallards, of which no more than two (2) can be female, one two (21) pintail, one (1) canvasback, two (2) redheads, one (1) mottled duck, three (3) wood ducks, and two (2) scaup. No mottled ducks may be taken before October 7, 2010.
b. Mergansers: Five (5), of which no more than two (2) may be hooded mergansers.

Pacific Flyway – All areas west of the Continental Divide.

First season: September 25 - October 12, 2010.
Second season: November 5, 2010 - January 30, 2011.

Daily Bag Limit:
a. Ducks and Mergansers: Seven (7) in the aggregate. Of the 7 (seven), no more than two (2) female mallards, two (2) pintails, one (1) canvasback, two (2) redheads and three(3) scaup. No scaup may be taken after January 11, 2011.
