Montana 2010 Big Game Regulations Available

March 17, 2010.

Regulations for the 2010 Montana moose, sheep, mountain goat, elk, deer, and antelope season are available online.

Key changes include:

Moose

• Close HDs 306, 307, 310, 316, 317, 318, 321, 328, and 515.
• Expand HD 303 with adjustment to northwest corner of Crazy Mountains.
• Eliminate antlerless licenses in HD 105.
• Eliminate either-sex licenses in HDs 210, 212, 214, 215, 240, 250, 270, 291, 303, 323, 326, 327, and 334.
• Decrease antlered bull licenses in HDs 211, 214, 215, 240, 250, 270, and 291.
• Increase antlered bull licenses in HD 303.

Mountain Goat

• Close HDs 223 and 280.
• HDs 312, 313, 314, 316, 320, 323, 324, 325, 326, 327, 328, 329, 330, 331, 362, 393 – standard opener of September 1.

Bighorn Sheep

• Close HDs 210, 216, 283, and 381.
• Expand HD 303 northern boundary.
• Expand HD 500 boundary.
• Expand HD 622 eastern boundary and expand 622-30 ewe license portion boundary.
• Re-open HD 302 with either-sex licenses.
• Increase either-sex licenses in HD680

Statewide Deer and Elk Changes:

• Saturday (not Sunday) deer and elk general firearm season opener.
• Two-day youth only deer hunting season October 21 and 22.
• Most antlerless and brow-tined bull/ antlerless permits are converted to elk
B licenses.
• A party application, up to four persons, for deer and elk permit and B license drawings is available.

Statewide Antelope Changes:

• Saturday (not Sunday) general firearm season opener.
• Separate antelope drawings into two categories: general antelope (either sex) and antelope B licenses (doe/ fawn).
• The process for getting doe tags is less attractive in some units.

Application deadlines:

Antelope: June 1
Bighorn Sheep: May 1
Bison: May 1
Deer, special drawings: June 1
Elk, special drawings: June 1
Moose: May 1
Mountain Goat: May 1
