Deer And Elk Harvest In Northwest Montana Picks Up Heading Into The Last Week

November 23, 2010.

From Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks:

Whitetail deer harvest in Montana's Region 1 picked up considerably during the past weekend, as snow and the rut improved hunting conditions.

At the six northwest Montana check stations through Sunday November 21, a total of 14,456 hunters checked 754 white-tailed deer (635 of these were bucks), 126 mule deer, and 115 elk for a 6.9 percent rate of hunters with game. Reflecting the improved hunting conditions, hunters checked 290 whitetail bucks through the check stations on Saturday and Sunday.

The counts at the six northwest Montana check stations represent a sampling of the harvest and do not represent the complete number of animals taken.

Before heading to the field, hunters should refer to the hunting regulations for the hunting district they plan to hunt.
