Utah Application System Overwhelmed, Deadline Extended

March 2, 2010.

2010 Utah Big Game applications were due on March 1st.

However, due to technical difficulties, the application deadline has been extended until March 8.

The Utah Division of Wildlife's homepage (http://wildlife.utah.gov) was diverted to a page showing the following information on Monday, March 1:

"URGENT NOTICE: Due to technical difficulties in the online application system, the application period for big game permits, bonus points and preference points will remain open until 11 p.m. on March 8, 2010.

The DWR Web has experienced unusually heavy traffic over the last several hours. You're seeing this greatly simplified Web page as a temporary workaround to help reduce Web server resource overload."

Application deadline extensions have become common in the last few years, with an extremely high percentage of hunters waiting until the last minute to apply. For more on how Oregon is trying to reduce system crashes, see our February 25th update.
