Apply Online for Arizona Elk and Pronghorn

January 9, 2012.

After years of being the only western state without an online application system, the Arizona Game and Fish Department finally implemented an online application service for Arizona’s 2012 hunts.

Arizona once had an online application system — and it always worked great for me — but suspended it during the middle of the 2007 application period for vague reasons related to "concerns [whether] its online service provider could adequately perform under its contract."

With the new system, you will have to pay a non-refundable application fee of $7.50 per applicant, along with the fee for any necessary licenses (a 2012 license is required to enter the 2012 draw).

The cost of the hunt permit-tag won’t be charged unless and until you are drawn. This is a huge change — you no longer have to front $1,400 to apply for sheep, $600 to apply for elk, $500 to apply for pronghorn, etc. This will make it much less painful to apply in Arizona. Which means that more people will apply, and draw odds will be tougher....

The system was available for applying for the Spring 2012 hunts back in October. It went offline for some reason, but is now back online for the elk and pronghorn draws.

Hunters who haven’t yet submitted an application can apply online by visiting www.azgfd.gov/draw and selecting the link to the online service.

The application deadline is Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2012 by 7 p.m. (MT). Online applicants are advised to apply early and not wait until the last minute, in case any technical issues arise on deadline day.
