Crossbows During Archery Season in Kansas?
January 17, 2012.
Kansas is well-known for its great whitetail hunting. It's also well understood that archery season is the best time to bag a big Kansas whitetail, since the archery season coincides with the rut.
A proposal has been floated to allow more crossbows during the archery deer season. Specifically, it would allow hunters 55 and older to use crossbows during archery season.
The age of 55 was selected because (apparently) that is the age at which aging hunters start to give up bowhunting.
Skeptical of the need and concerned about the advantage crossbows would offer, one member of the Kansas Wildlife, Parks and Tourism Commission blasted: "Mr. Magoo could probably hit a deer with one at 50 yards."
The unpopular proposal seems likely to fail when it's brought up for a vote on March 22nd. But if you're 55 or older, you might want to keep your eye on this potential opportunity.
