Wyoming Sheep, Goat, Moose, Bison Apps Due February 29th
February 21, 2012
Applications for Wyoming's moose, bighorn sheep, bison, and mountain goat licenses will be accepted until 5 p.m. Feb. 29, 2012.
The Feb. 29 application deadline applies to both residents and nonresidents. The application deadline is usually Feb. 28, but with Leap Year, hunters get an extra day to get their application in.
Drawing odds vary depending on species and hunt area. Preference points have been available for both moose and bighorn sheep for 17 years and 75 percent of the quotas for each species are issued in the preference point drawing. The remaining 25 percent is issued in a random drawing without regard for preference point totals. Preference points are not available for mountain goat or bison licenses, but they are limited to one in a lifetime.
Hunters can research drawing odds from previous years for the various species and hunt areas on the Game and Fish website.
Hunters who choose not to apply this year can still purchase a preference point either online or through the mail between July 1 - Sept. 30.
I'm putting in apps for sheep, goat, and moose this year. I've already shot my Wyoming bison and am not eligible.
The big news for me is that I've been building points for moose for a decade plus, and I think I can actually draw tag this year. Very exctied for the draw!
