February 14, 2008
See below for a follow-up on our January 25th update.
From the Colorado Division of Wildlife:
A tip from a citizen helped the Colorado Division of Wildlife (DOW) solve the case of deer being shot in the Rockrimmon neighborhood in Colorado Springs.
"Based on the information provided by a citizen, we were able to get a confession from a juvenile who admitted shooting deer with a bow and arrow," said investigating officer Steve Cooley of the DOW.
The juvenile was charged with three wildlife hunting violations and paid a fine of $2,877.
"The anonymous tip was key to solving the case," Cooley said. "We cannot stress enough that information provided by the public can help solve poaching crimes."
Anyone who sees illegal hunting or fishing activity is asked to contact their local wildlife office, or call Operation Game Thief toll-free at 1-877-265-6648. Callers do not have to reveal their names or testify in court. Operation Game Thief gives rewards if the information results in a ticket being issued.
