Colorado Continues Track Record of Failure on Big Game Draws

April 30, 2008.

During the 2007 season, the Colorado Division of Wildlife was 0 for 8 on making their deadlines for big game draws. The 2007 draw results were posted late for Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep, Moose, Mountain Goat, Desert Bighorn Sheep, Elk, Deer, Bear, and Pronghorn.

Other Western states routinely meet their deadlines, making missed dates very rare. The uniqueness of this accomplishment makes it all the more noteworthy, clearing establishing CDOW's draw system as one of the poorest in the West.

Colorado has gotten the 2008 season off on the same footing. Last night, the CDOW changed the target posting date for Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep from April 30 to May 6. Also in accordance with their track record, they did not comment publicly on why they were unable to make their target.

While Colorado's lack of competence is frustrating, it will at least be entertaining to see if they can make a single one of their goals.

Will Colorado be able to pull off another "perfect" season?
