Update: Changes Ahead For Montana Bowhunters

January 21, 2008.

HTW subscribers will recall from our December 21st update that Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks is considering a series of changes intended to reduce crowding, reduce the numbers of non-resident hunters, and increase access to private land by hampering outfitting and leasing businesses.

Key aspects of the plan involve eliminating over-the-counter archery licenses for elk in the Upper Missouri River Breaks, eliminating over-the-counter archery licenses for antelope, and modifying opening dates.

MFWP has been holding a series of meetings to allow the public to comment on the plan.

The Havre Daily News offered detailed coverage of a public meeting held in Havre, MT late last week. Outfitters, hunters, and ranchers all had interesting comments.
