Leftover Big Game Licenses Still Available in South Dakota

November 25, 2008.

From South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks:

While some hunting opportunities are drawing to an end, the Game, Fish and Parks Department reminds hunters that there are still many big game licenses still available.

The East River Deer season is open through Nov. 30 for all licenses. The season remains open from Dec. 1-7 and again from Jan. 1-9 for any unused or unsold license for “antlerless deer only” hunting.

The West River Deer season is open from Nov. 24-30 and again from Jan. 1-9 for any unused or unsold license for “antlerless deer only” hunting.

The Firearms Antelope season is open in the counties of Butte, Harding, Meade and Perkins for “doe or fawn” only antelope hunting. Any unused or unsold license for these four counties may be used anywhere in the four-county area from Nov. 24-30 and again from Jan. 1-9.

There are approximately 3,000 unsold licenses still remaining for East River Deer, 3,600 for West River Deer and 1,300 for Firearms Antelope. There is no limit on the number of licenses an individual may purchase for each of these seasons.

There are also 3,000 unsold licenses still remaining for the Fall Turkey season, which is open through Jan. 31. In addition, seasons for Archery Deer, Muzzleloader Deer and Youth Deer remain open through Jan. 31 with licenses still available for purchase.

A list of left over licenses can be found by visiting: http://www.sdgfp.info/Wildlife/hunting/Leftovers/Index.htm

“Hunters play a vital role in deer management for South Dakota,” GFP Wildlife Division Director Tony Leif said. “There are fantastic hunting opportunities available in South Dakota and I hope hunters will take full advantage of what the coming weeks have to offer.”
