Update: 2008 Wyoming Wild Bison Hunt
October 23, 2008.
The Jackson Hole Daily ran an article on October 27 giving an update on the annual elk and wild bison hunt on the National Elk Refuge:
Game and Fish estimates hunters have harvested a total of 67 bison so far this year, 37 of those on the refuge. Refuge officials report 19 elk harvested from the start of hunting Oct. 11 through Oct. 19, though that number is likely low because hunters often wait to report their kills.
Elk refuge biologist Eric Cole said the hunts, especially the south end limited weapons hunt, have succeeded in keeping the majority of bison and elk off the south end of the refuge, thereby preserving natural forage until the winter begins.
