First of the 2008 Applications Due Soon

November 15, 2007.

Believe it or not, it's time to think about submitting your applications for the fall 2008 season.

Wyoming elk and New Mexico oryx apps will be due within the first month or so of the new year, but it's Alaska that gets the honors of setting the earliest application dates in The West.

Limited license applications for Alaska sheep, moose, brown bear, and mountain goat are due December 6. While Alaska has many tags for these species available over-the-counter, these limited draw hunts are some of Alaska's finest, including the Tok Management area for sheep and all the Kodiak goat hunts.

For non-residents, all of these species except for moose require you to have a guide, or to be escorted by a close relative. Given that you're probably going to need a guide anyway, you'll want to work with them on the application process. When I finally get around to applying for my Kodiak goat hunt, I'll work with the guys from Cabela's Outdoor Adventures.

Application informatoin is available online from the Alaska Department of Fish and Game.
