2008 Utah Applications Available
December 27, 2007.
Applications for Utah's 2008 big game season are now available on the website of the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources.
Utah offers outstanding but hard-to-draw tags for bighorns, desert sheep, goats, bison, moose, mulies, elk, and pronghorns.
Key changes include:
- You now have to buy a hunting license before you can apply in Utah. Previously, you could apply in Utah for a bargain rate of $5 per application. In 2008, you'll have to purchase a $65 non-refundable non-resident hunting license ($26 for residents) before you can apply.
- Paper applications are no longer accepted. To apply, you must use the online process supported through http://wildlife.utah.gov.
- A proposal to change the general deer season in the Southern and Southeastern regions from a 5-day season to a 9-day season was not implemented. (Most other any-weapon deer seasons in Utah are already on a 9-day season.)
- A proposal to return the general spike bull elk hunt to a 13-day season was implemented. That makes the spike season the same length as the general any-bull elk season.
Applications are accepted online between January 2nd and January 31st.
You can apply for a bonus or preference point through February 29.
Draw results will be available by April 30.
Go to the website of the Utah Division of Wildlife resources to get your copy of the application booklet. The booklet is referred to as the "2008 Guidebook" this year, instead of Utah's traditional "proclamation" terminology.
