Arizona 2010 Spring Draw Information Available
August 27, 2009.
The first round of applications for 2010 is here. Application information for Arizona spring turkey, javelina, buffalo, and bear is available now the Arizona Game and Fish Department's Web site.
The deadline to apply is Tuesday, October 13 by 7:00 pm (MT). Postmarks do not count. The draw will occur by November 27, 2009.
Apply early to make sure you get your application in and to take advantage of the correction period. If your application has a mistake and is received by September 24 by 5:00pm, the department will attempt to call you three times in a 24-hour period and give you the opportunity to correct the mistake. After that date, mistakes can cause your application to be rejected.
A 2010 license is required to enter the spring draw. Licenses may be purchased in advance at any department office or license dealer, and some types are available through the draw/application process. The non-refundable cost for nonresidents is $151.25. You'll need this for the main 2010 fall applications as well.
Application information is available at http://www.azgfd.gov/eservices/draw.shtml.
Arizona is still lagging behind the other western states — no online application service is available. Paper applications and full, up-front tag fees are required — this can be as high as $5,452 for a bull bison permit.
Personally, I am never particularly excited by the cost, odds, or opportunity offered by Arizona's spring hunts (with the possible exception of the House Rock either-sex bison hunts), and I do not apply.
