Hunting and The Economy: Idaho Sheep and Goat Applications Down Less Than 2%

May 28, 2009.

The 2009 Idaho Sheep, Goat, and Moose draw results are out, along with the drawing statistics.

Some details:

Overall, applications for Rocky Mountain Bighorns, California Bighorns, and Mountain Goats were down less than 2%. (Due to the large number of moose permit areas, I have not crunched those numbers yet).

Applications for California Bighorns were up 6%.

Applications for Rocky Mountain Bighorns were down 5%.

Applications for Mountain Goats were down 4%.

This is fairly consistent with what we've been seeing across the West this year — applications for premier tags are down slightly, but not enough to get our hopes up. Diehard hunters are pursuing their dream hunts despite economic uncertainty.
