Leftover Whitetail Tags Available in Kansas
July 7, 2009.
On June 30, the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks announced that 100% of the non-residents who applied for a whitetail deer permit were successful in the draw.
KDWP gave themselves a pick pat on the back, noting that "this success is directly attributable to changes in the permit allocation process made by the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP) last year."
Regardless of whether the availability of deer tags is a result of the foresight of the KDWP or simply the abundance of deer in Kansas, this was certainly good news for non-resident whitetail hunters.
Mule Deer Stamps were still competitive, and hunters could find out whether they drew a Mule Deer Stamp to go with their whitetail tag by calling KDWP (I got mine!).
For those hunters who did not apply in Kansas and did not do well in other state draws, a whitetail hunt in Kansas is still a possiblity. Leftover tags remain in all units, and they go on sale on July 20th at 9:00am CT:
