Oregon Big Game Draw Results Released Early

June 15, 2009.

Oregon released results for the 2009 big game draws late friday afternoon, approximately 2 weeks earlier than scheduled.

I got a big UNSUCCESSFUL for sheep and points-only for everything else.

Check your results online:

You will need your Hunting License Number in order to use the online system.

“We want to thank hunters for their patience during this year’s controlled hunt process, which was delayed due to problems with our license sales system,” said Ron Anglin, ODFW wildlife division administrator. “We recognized this could impact planning for fall hunts and rearranged workloads to complete the draw and get results out earlier than expected.”

ODFW received 418,966 applications for fall 2009 controlled big game (deer, elk, pronghorn, bighorn sheep and Rocky Mtn goat) hunts, a 4 percent increase over last year’s receipt of 401,991 applications. The increase is in keeping with recent years’ trends (389,465 controlled hunt applications in 2007 and 382,721 in 2006).

A total of 129,680 controlled big game hunt tags are available for fall 2009 seasons.

Some of Oregon’s big game hunts are limited entry, including almost all rifle hunting of deer and elk east of the Cascades and pronghorn antelope, bighorn sheep, and Rocky Mountain goat hunts. Hunters must apply in advance to obtain one of these “controlled” hunts.

Tag sale deadlines

Deer, elk and pronghorn hunters successful in the draw must purchase their tag no later than the day before the earliest hunt period begins. New for this year, bighorn sheep and Rocky Mtn goat hunters that draw one of these rare, once-in-a-lifetime tags can purchase their tag anytime prior to going hunting.

Deer and elk hunters that were unsuccessful at drawing their preferred hunt can still purchase a general season tag. Important general season tag deadlines to keep in mind follow:

Aug. 28 - Archery deer and elk

Oct. 2 - Western Oregon deer centerfire

Oct. 2 – Black bear and cougar

Oct. 16 - Cascade elk centerfire

Oct. 27 - Rocky Mt elk centerfire, 1st season

Nov. 6 - Rocky Mt elk centerfire, 2nd season

Nov. 13 - Coast elk centerfire, 1st season

Nov. 20 - Coast elk centerfire, 2nd season

Tags can be purchased online now, or at an ODFW office or license agent
