Apply Now for Wyoming Elk
January 23, 2009.
According to the Wyoming non-resident hunt booklet, applications for Wyoming elk are due January 31. Wyoming Game and Fish has extended this deadline to Monday, Februrary 2nd, however, since January 31st fell on the weekend.
Rumor has it that the number of applications received so far is down significantly from previous years, a reflection of economic uncertainity. If you're in a position to apply, you may finally get lucky in the draw.

Elk licenses are $591, and the full fee must be submitted up front. "Special" elk licenses, which typically offer better draw odds, are a hefty $1,071. Getting a preference point is another $50 on top of that.
If you want to apply for preference points only, you need to wait for the appropriate application period, July 1 through September 30.
Preference points only is the option I'll be going with. I'm worried about the economy and need to manage my cash flow. Plus, with two kids at home under the age of 2, I'm not really allowed to leave the house this year.
